Rumor has it, we're getting very, very close to having this baby. How the heck did that happen?! I feel like there is so much to get done: little details in the nursery, sewing projects, figuring out this whole breastfeeding thing, mentally preparing myself for the natural birth that I want although I'm scared that I won't be able to do.
On top of wanting to get so much stuff done, I am experiencing one of my first pregnancy symptoms: swelling! After being at a work event and on my feet for too long, I came home with a left foot that had doubled in size. Ugh. The right foot? Perfectly fine. Just the left looked wonky. Oh, and I have a terrible soar throat/cough/cold. Double ugh. I've been feeling awful and am hoping that I'll be healthy again soon. Chicago has had record breaking March weather - it's so warm out and I can't enjoy any of it! It's pretty miserable.
Anyway, in the meantime Baby K has been getting bigger by the minute.
At Week 34, Baby K weighs as much as a cantaloupe - about 4 3/4 pounds! And, having a cantaloupe inside of me makes me look like this:
At Week 35, Baby K weighs as much as a honeydew melon - a big old 5 1/4 pounds. Yikes! With my honeydew-sized baby in my belly, I look like this:
We are getting very, very excited for Baby K's arrival and are just as nervous. I can't believe baby will be here so soon!
Baby K: Weeks 29, 30, 31, 32, 33
Monday, March 5, 2012
Wow, a lot of weeks are passing by in between blog posts! Things have just been so crazy busy these days. We have completed our childbirth education class and our baby care class, both offered through the hospital we will deliver at. While informational, they crammed a WHOLE LOT OF INFORMATION into a short amount of time! Each class was around 7 hours but it's nonstop learning. As a result of the baby care class, Steve is now an expert swaddler.
Otherwise, we have just been finishing getting the nursery ready, getting excited for our upcoming showers (!!) and we even had a "babymoon" weekend downtown that I'm excited to soon blog about.
At our last 2 appointments, we learned that the baby is in the head down position, which we're hoping doesn't change! I'm getting more uncomfortable when I sleep and the baby is always leaning on my right side, which I've learned feels like your muscles are being ripped apart! Ouch. But, again, we're just so glad that the baby is positioned correctly and seemingly happy to stay that way!
At Week 29, the baby is about the size of a butternut squash - approximately 2 1/2 pounds!
At Week 30, the baby weighs about as much as a cabbage - 3 pounds!
At Week 31, baby is about as heavy as 4 oranges!
At Week 32, the baby weighs about as much as jicama. For those of you who aren't jicama fanatics, this is about 3 3/4 pounds! This was also a mind boggling milestone, as it put me at 8 months pregnant!
And, finally, at Week 33 baby is as heavy as a pineapple - about 4 pounds and about 17 inches long. Whoah!
I can't believe just how quickly the third trimester is flying by! We are so excited to meet our squirmy little baby but can't believe that it will be so soon. I also can't believe I will get even bigger than I already am!
